Scavenger Hunt

This was a great photo weekend (aren't those the best?!) - we drove to NY to visit my husband's family and wow, I could have stayed another month just to take pictures.  Plus, they're pretty awesome people too.

I've been experimenting with trying to capture sun flares - and received some great advice from Snapshots by Michele that I had to try out.   I stared at the sun a bit too much to be healthy, but discovered that I can do magical things just by changing my f-stops.

 1. SOOC - We were coming home from hiking and found this beautiful bird (crane? egret?) on the side of the road.  I used my big lens (aka Canon EF-S 55-250 mm).

Scavenger Hunt

Woo hoo!  This weekend, I took lots of great photos and seem to have enough for the Scavenger Hunt this week!  I didn't do too much editing, just the basics in Lightroom and put 'em up here!  That's a lot of exclamation points!

Scavenger Hunt

High Key: This is one of those cases when I realize I have no idea what I'm doing. I didn't know that high key was a photographic technique. I only thought about the key that is stored above our bedroom door, that unlocks the locks in our apartment. But - I *think* I did this correctly anyway.

Bedroom:  I actually took this a bit ago, and I wanted to share it.

Something tiny:  Shredding.  I was reaching this week.

Off in the distance:  Captured this rainbow while driving around this weekend.

Stripes:  I told you all I was reaching this week.  So unoriginal.  Sigh.

Scavenger Hunt

Wow, its HARD to keep up with the hunt!  I pulled images from the past few weeks to show, and didn't do too much with edits, only in Lightroom.  And, I didn't even take one of the photos...

Decay:  This used to be a cow path turned into a subway path.  I love capturing images like this.

Groups of three:  From an experiment with art materials.  Three types of medium on a photo, for photo transfer.  It only works so well...once the medium dries, you have to score and peel off the back of the photo, which takes for-ev-er.  But it leaves an image with an interesting texture for art journaling.

Me Time:  I didn't take this.  I convinced my husband to take it with his iPhone.  That's me, running!

Scavenger Hunt

I'm trying out some new techniques to resize my images for the web, using the unsharp mask and now I'm hosting my images on Flikr.  All totally an experiment for me, so bear with me.  But, I'm totally proud I was able to do the Scavenger Hunt again!  This week was a fun combination of wandering around the city and exploring a park within the city - on top of the city!  Wow, what a view.  I'm participating in Now to Wow, and was able to grab a ton of yellow images (I'll share tomorrow!) and Walking in the World, so this ended up being my walk and artist date (also more about that later).

Vanishing Point
I stopped in the middle of crossing the train tracks and yelled to my husband to keep an eye out for me!  I love taking vanishing point images in the city, the streets, transportation, the buildings, all lend to good perspectives.

Square Crop
Took this at Panera.  I ended up blacking out the light outside of the textured squares.  I love the squares within the square within the square crop!

While taking this picture I kept thinking of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds:
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.
I have no clue what the correlation is. But this building is a landmark in our 'hood. I love it.
A bit too purple though, eh.

A beautiful day Saturday, two musicians were playing at the top of the hill, the reverberation of the violin bouncing across the houses as we spied like children.

Scavenger Hunt

Woo hoo!  I was able to do the scavenger hunt again this week!  I'm pretty excited, because I am thinking about photography again.  As I was putting these together, I realize I'm still a lot all over the place, and I feel like my edits are far from perfect.  But I'm learning, thinking and practicing.  Which is awesome.  And thank you so much for welcoming me into your community - I was happily overwhelmed last week.

1.  Capture the Sky
The skies here are not so interesting, they are flat and dull.  Yesterday, there was a nice feathering of clouds behind this municipal building.  Score.  Cheat:  the sky was not that blue.
2.  Everyday
I took this photo in Panera, our favorite place on earth.  The light is a little wonky.
But I'm a big believer in eating an apple a day.
3.  Furry
Furry was hard!  I don't have anything furry in my apartment, I don't have any pets.
Then I remembered these buds right outside our apartment building - they are amazing, they've held on for the whole winter.  I have no clue how I captured the little fuzz around it.

4.  Life
It snowed again today, and we had errands to run.  I kept thinking about how everything just continues onward even in the snow, it doesn't stop.  And I loved how the green arrows keep us moving forward.

5.  Blurred
This is a sneak peek into my attempts at a self-portrait.  We park in a garage and I have always wanted to take a photo in that mirror.  That's my husband in the background, getting antsy.  I love the lines and shapes in this image.

Scavenger Hunt

For many, many weeks I've been trying to do this photo scavenger hunt.  I was going to give up and claim that I could never do it (with dramatic hand gestures and all).  But this week, the things to find were all easily findable, so I had no excuse.  So here goes!

1.  Chocolate
I have not been eating sugar for almost a year (except little planned cheats here and there).  I've recently been dreaming about eating chocolate, so this one was torture.  It smelled so good while I was shooting.  But I put them all back in the bag when I was done.  Sigh.  Torture.

2.  Numbers
 My sudoko book!

3.  Canned Food
I'm proud of myself on this one.  Not because its a particularly good shot, but because this pushed me to really think about what I was doing.  Everything from framing, to layout, to focus.

4.  Music
I love you, iPhone.
This little gem randomly pulled one amazing song after another while I was taking photos, cleaning my apartment and folding laundry.  Its amazing, a whole new way of thinking about music.

5.  Stacks
I mentioned the cleaning of the apartment, right?  I had too many choices for this one:  the stacks of magazines, the stacks of books, the stacks of random crap.  These are all waiting to be "processed" - cut up to be used in my art projects, fun articles/recipes ripped out for later use, and the remainder recycled.  I love, love, love these body+soul magazines.
